Squid Gamers
Squid Gamers is a comedic parody of hit Netflix series Squid Game. At 28 minutes long, it is easily the biggest project that the YS United team has collaborated on to date. Written and Directed by Colton Kerr, Squid Gamers took 2 months to produce, had a 20+ page script, took 5 weeks of filming and had a cast of over 15 people. The name Squid Gamers derives from the characters past as video game addicts. Squid Gamers follows the story of Tom (JJ Valverde), a hardcore gamer, and his journey through the dangerous children’s games, all in the hope of striking it rich!
Squid Gamers Crew
The Squid Game Scene Explained
Throughout the film, we follow two very distinct groups. The group of protagonists, led by Tom, and the group of Antagonists led by Tabby. The final six players all line up for a game of Squid Game in order to determine the winner of the game. The protagonists choose to take the attacking side and after lining up, it shows a dramatic pan of the players on both sides. At the end, it zooms in on Tom and fades to The Frontman, where he dramatically takes off his mask. Throughout the film there is a connection hinted at between the two characters. We wanted to show this connection through the cliffhanger at the end. Although there was no winner, it is very well hinted that the Frontman wanted Tom to take the glory.
